PFO members across the country are eagerly waiting for their EPF interest to be credited. After months of anticipation, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is expected to start adding 8.25 per cent annual interest for FY 2025 and 26 into member accounts from July 15. This year's exercise is significant because it comes after EPFO completed migration to its new Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) platform, a move aimed at speeding up member services.
Lately, Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also said around 34 crore accounts are set to receive interest worth nearly Rs 1.44 lakh crore. Still, not everyone may see updated balances on day one because interest credit is carried out in batches.
Will every EPFO member interest on July 15?
Not many are aware that July 15 marks the beginning of interest credit and not the completion of the exercise. EPFO updates millions of accounts in phases, so balances will not change for every subscriber at once. If your passbook does not reflect interest today, it simply means your account is yet to be processed. Once your turn comes, interest will be credited automatically without requiring any action from you.
How to check if PF interest is credited
Checking your PF account takes only a few minutes. Visit EPFO's Member Passbook portal and sign in with your Universal Account Number (UAN), password and captcha. After selecting your PF account, open your passbook to view recent entries. If interest has been added, it will appear as a separate transaction. Subscribers can also use the UMANG app to view updated PF details using registered login credentials.
How EPFO calculates annual PF interest?
Many employees believe interest is calculated on year end balance, but that is not how EPFO works. Interest is computed on monthly running balances because both employee and employer make contributions every month. Any withdrawal or fresh contribution during the year changes interest calculation. For example, someone who maintained about Rs 5 lakh in a PF account throughout FY 2025 and 26 could earn nearly Rs 41,250 at 8.25 per cent, although actual credit will depend on monthly account activity.
Why your PF passbook still showing old balance?
Delayed update does not mean interest has been denied. EPFO first completes internal processing and then updates passbooks in stages. During this period, many members continue seeing old balances even though interest credit is underway. Subscribers are advised to check again after a few days instead of raising a grievance immediately
